Taking Acid Reducers safe?
Ok, so I have been on Nexium for 6 weeks doc orders. Felt fine. Been off for about 3 weeks and the acid reflux has started up again. Yeah I gotta change my diet but the doc said I should continue with Nexium. This time around it wasn't free so she gave me a prescription but the stuff is way too expensive. She suggested I try OTC Prilosec for 14 days (cheaper and smaller dose) and at the same time to change my diet a little bit to see if I can control the acid reflux. If after the 14 days the reflux comes back continue another 14 day treatment and again control diet to pin point. If after that its still coming back I'll go in for a follow up to talk about further treatment.

I mention the warning on the box "Do not take for more than 14 days" and she basically told me to disregard it. I asked her is this safe? And she said yes its ok to take it for more than 14 days. But I then said I read that it could cause problems and she stopped me and said to stop reading stuff on the Internet and self-diagnosing.

Anyone else take these things for more than 14 days? Is it safe?

Acid reflux and eating habit?
I've been on Prilosec for a few months and it seemed to control my acid reflux very well. Last week, I ate more than usual and got too full most of the times. I don't know if the Prilosec loses its effectiveness or because of the eating habit but the acid reflux seems to be back. I am changing my lifestyle back to the way it was and hopefully Prilosec can control it again.

Do you know if it was my eating habit last week really caused the acid reflux to be back but not the effectiveness of Prilosec? If you experienced the same problem, please let me know. Thank you very much.
You know how long the symptoms usually last?
The only thing I feel now is I get hungry very quickly (every 3 hours)

acid reflux and birth control?
I just started taking birth control, and I took it at around 4:15 pm. I have acid reflux so whenever i eat icecream, i end up burping the majority of it up, and that happened today at 6:30. is the pill still going to work or should i be worried? I did eat a grilled cheese sandwich and some peanut butter before the icecream, which i have held down...but what are your thoughts?
and when i burp it up i spit it all up...so i guess sort of like vomiting, but not purposely!

Acid reflux, anxiety, or something else?
For awhile now, I've had some symptoms that seem similar to what I've seen being described by sufferers of acid reflux. Occasionally I'll have slight chest pain (heartburn). I often have extremely uncomfortable bloating and/or gas (sorry for the TMI). This doesn't always happen immediately after eating--sometimes it happens without eating at all, and sometimes I eat and am fine. Those symptoms may be something unrelated or they may be a part of the following. I very, very often experience an uncomfortable sensation in my throat--I rarely (hardly ever) actually burp (have always been that way), but it's a feeling that I need to do so (and can't) or that I'm going to be sick (which I haven't actually done since elementary school). My stomach itself isn't usually the source of any discomfort (except with the bloating)--it's a sensation in my throat. When it occurs while/before eating, it makes it very difficult to finish/continue eating (even if my stomach is fine). It also makes it extremely difficult to talk, especially in one-on-one conversation where I have to talk for a long period without a break--because it's like I start breathing faster and feel extremely sick (throat/chest only, not stomach), and have to stop. It's also happened on occasion when I'm not having to talk or eat, and usually in a "social" situation. I'm not a shy person at all, and don't mind being in front of crowds--yet this has become a huge problem. I basically embarrassed myself during a friend's wedding in which I was reading a passage as I had to stop, breathe deeply, and basically looked like I was trying not to puke (which is what it felt like)--in another wedding, I wasn't speaking at all, but I was a bridesmaid and had the same feeling and response--got very fidgety, hand touching throat, etc. The thing is, it's become worse over time. It's gotten to the point now where I experience a similar feeling anytime I'm with someone I'm not totally comfortable with (by comfortable, I mean able to share anything--best friends, immediate family) and/or especially in one-on-one conversation or where I'm the focus. Eating with others (excluding immediate family/close friends) is difficult. Since I'm not a shy person and I actually had a good bit of experience with public speaking when I was younger (without experiencing this problem), this confuses me. I'm not sure if it's an anxiety issue showing up with physical symptoms or if it's a physical issue (like acid reflux). Either way, I'd like to find a way to control it--it's interfering with regular activities (like dating--ever tried hanging out one-on-one with a guy you've just met and are interested in and not been able to hold a conversation without seeming like you're constantly burping/hiccuping or about to have a panic attack?). I'm only 22 and healthy (or so I believe!).

I realize that a doctor could also be of help, but I wanted some input here from people who may have experienced similar symptoms. If there's an OTC product that you think could help control the symptoms, or any other techniques, please share.

Can acid reflux(GERD) lead to any kind of serious conditions?
I have acid reflux and every now and then it acts up. I am told to take my Nexium when it does this or if I know I'll be eating food or drinking alcohol that will irritate this.

This doesn't happen to me often and since I've been on the Nexium it's been controlled pretty well but I am wondering if these sporadic outbursts are bad for me in that they could lead to some kind of more serious medical condition or disease.

Thanks
